On the Go Bags ++ book GIVEAWAY!

On the Go Bags Blog Tour

It is no secret that I love bags. Behind sewing clothing for myself, bags are a close second favorite when I sit down to my sewing machine. Not only do I love sewing bags, I also love buying them! Purses, totes, overnight bags, etc., etc., etc. It’s a real problem. So if you need a bag, give me a call… I probably have one you can borrow (or keep, I probably won’t realize you have it!).

When Lindsay Conner, co-auther of On the Go Bags, asked if I would like to review her new book, I immediately said yes, because: BAGS. ha! I loved flipping through the ebook version, seeing all the different styles her and Janelle MacKay came up with; there are some really well-thought-out bags and other style organizers in this book. Since I just had my sweet Tinsley 2 months ago, I haven’t had a chance to actually sit down and sew any of them, but I have virtually dog-eared the Park Blanket (it folds into itself!!) and the Travel Toiletry Organizer.

On the Go Bags (Dec. 2015, Stash Books)

Luckily for me, Lindsay sewed a “Mom’s Minivan Organizer” for the Art Gallery Fabrics Canvas lookbook in my Happy Home canvas print. I told her how much I loved it and SHE SENT IT TO ME! Is that not the sweetest?! I LOVE the functionality of this “bag” and actually use it ALL. THE. TIME. Since we had our baby, I had to move my sewing studio outside of our home (too small of a space here!), so I use it (almost) daily to transport things to and from “work”. I keep a sewing machine at home so I can work on projects at night after Tinsley goes to sleep and this organizer is the perfect size to do so.

  1. I love sewing practical and useful bags for everyday use. Whether it’s a purse or reusable shopping bags I love creating one of a kind bags that no one else has but me. It’s always cool when someone admires your bag and I can say, “thank you, I made it!”

  3. I love to sew shoulder bags. I have sewn many of Sew Sweetness’ bag patterns. However I’ve given them all away as gifts! I haven’t been able to keep one for myself. hahaha! This book would be such a wonderful drawing prize. Thank you for the chance!

  5. Tote bags of all sizes are my thing. I have some great patterns I love to go back to, but I’m always looking for something new.

  8. I have a bit of a bag problem too… and I think I passed that gene on to my daughter.
I would love to sew that trunk organizer!

  9. I haven’t sew many bags but love the ones I have sewn. Totes and grocery bags and even some wide open zipper bags. Would love to win the book and would then make the organizer bag for my truck. Thanks for the chance!

  10. I absolutely love making bags that are purses or multi-functional. All about being able to use them in many ways.

  11. i love making large bags as I always have so much to carry! I really want to make the bag on the book cover!

  12. I have been making simple totes for some time, but only now started to make complicated bags – and LOVE it.

  13. I love to make a new handbags as the seasons change. With enough pockets to carry everything we need for a day out with the little ones. I think the organiser would be so useful when we go camping as a family. It looks great.

  14. I love the mini van organizer! I haven’t made many bags but I’d like that to change, hehe. I think the organizer would be great for my car as its full of things that belong to my grandson.

    Awesome giveaway!

  15. How nice to be sent that lovely organiser. Bags are my favourite thing to sew. I like my bags to be really practical so lots of pockets and compartments but every one has a use imagined before I sew it.

  16. Wow what an awesome looking book! Mums minivan looks just what is needed for my daughter as she drives three girls to dance concerts all over Sydney here in Australia. Costumes and hair and makeup requirements are hard to keep track of

  17. I agree that bags can get addicting! My favorite type to sew is those that I can use everyday. Since I’m a grad student, that means it needs to have lots of room and compartments.

  18. Love the van organizer, I would like to just look and drool and plan…Thanks for the giveaway! vickise at gmail dot com

  19. Yikes! I will need to get this book!!! This car organiser is definitely a must for me. Perfect for having beach gear in the car for when we just need to cool down ( I am in oz with two little fish!)

  20. Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy, how exciting !! I’m a crossbody kind of gal, but can be persuaded to try something else. 🙂

  21. Nice gift! I like bags that organize bits and pieces such as geek cords and batteries, sewing supplies, purse inserts and the like. The car organizer fits right in with that.

  22. I like medium size bags with a cross-body strap so I can wear it while wrangling my two young kids. I also like a zip top because my bags often find themselves tipped upside down or dropped down quickly, durable fabrics as my younger goes to preschool in the woods so my bags have to be able to stand up to being set down in the dirt, and I like lots of pockets for organization.

  23. i love sewing shoulder bags, but i’d really like to have a go at making a rucksack as i’ve never tried that before! this book looks awesome 🙂 thank you for the giveaway!

  24. First of all, congrats on baby she is adorable!!! I love to make any kind of bag especially for kids. Totes, backpacks, book bags, etc. Kids have much to haul so much is needed…. haha

  25. I love to sew travel bags with matching make-up cases, baby doll diaper bags for kids, and drawstring bags. Thanks!

  26. That trunk organizer looks awesome! I can think of a million things to use it for. It will be great for loading things in the camper on the weekends.

  27. i am new to sewing so i have not yet tried to make a bag – only zipper totes for cosmetics, etc.

but to carry i prefer structured totes with divisions to keep magazines and ipad and kindle standing upright

  28. I’m still a beginner when it comes to sewing, but I have made a few basic tote bags with success 🙂 I’d love to attempt the van organiser – my car is always a mess and with my first baby arriving in March next year I’m sure the situation is just going to get worse!

  29. I don’t sew a lot of bags but I’ve gotten pretty good at whipping together basic shopping bags.

  30. I’ve never made a bag (lots of clothes, though) and am really smitten with the one shoulder backpack on the cover of On the Go! It’s great to discover your site–I see lots of fun things to make 🙂

  31. favourite bag to sew? ….I have NEVER sewn one! Keep looking at pictures on blogs. Think I need a book to inspire/ kick start me!

  32. After sewing many other things I’m just starting to collect everything I need including the pattern to sew my first bag/purse!

  33. Fine blog. Glad Lindsay sent you the tote. My favorite style for carrying everyday is a cross-body style with lots of pockets to help keep me organized and my hands free!!

  34. Newest fav: a divided basket to hold my fabric stash, but which will do so much more soon! I know the book is something I’d love to have as I prepare for our planned move into a tiny house on wheels which will always be “on the go”! The projects are tailor made for me! The organizer will be just the ticket for our home’s loft storage and for our vehicle as we travel and stay in our state and national parks. A smart backpack will be necessary as we hike the trails, too, and there is frequent shopping for groceries for a tiny tiny house, so totes are a necessity! And who among us doesn’t love a new purse! My collection of practical bags will be an important part of our journey, as will my beloved sewing machine!

  35. I sew bags for gifts, so which one I sew depends on the recipient. I made a lovely tablet bag for my daughter. I made a bag with lots of pockets for a friend. I am making a fibre art kind of bag as part of a show I will be participating in in the spring. So I guess I don’t have a favorite.

  36. I’ve been making a ton of tote bags for Christmas gifts this year, so I’m getting pretty good at those.

  37. Ooh, love that bag. i’ve actually never sewn a bag yet, but it’s definitely the next thing I want to tackle.

  38. OMG! That trunk organizer is a must have. I’m going to need to make like 3 of them for the back of my SUV. Exactly what I need right now!

  39. A cross body bag with multiple pockets is my go to everytime I leave home. 🙂 That way I have 2 hands free to shop or deal with my kids.
