Parkside Shorts + Skirt RTW Inspiration and Sew-A-Long Announcement

I have been so pleased with the response to my newest pattern, the Parkside Shorts + Skirt! (Have you grabbed your copy yet? They’re on sale until Sunday 5/22!) I wanted to give a little back story to the shorts, show you some of my RTW (ready to wear) inspiration, and share a fun announcement regarding this new pattern!

Last summer I was at the height of my pregnancy during the hottest months of the year. People said I would be miserable.. and although, yes, it was hot, I would not say it was the worst experience of my life. I think because it was summer I was able to extend my regular wardrobe for quite a bit longer and just wear maternity shorts on the bottom. The full panel maternity shorts were kind of hot (the short panel kind wouldn’t stay up on me), but I was surviving. Then I bought a pair of elastic waist shorts from J.Crew and my life was forever changed. Like seriously, y’all. I went back and bought them in every color they had because I knew I would be wearing them the rest of that pregnancy (they don’t sell them anymore!). They were loosely fitted through the thighs (so my legs didn’t bulge out when I sat down (you feel me?!)), were the perfect length (not too short, not too long) and HAD ELASTIC IN THE WAIST. Need I say more?

Since I’m not longer pregnant and summer has rolled around again, I needed to make some shorts that fit like those J.Crew ones but were about a size smaller so they wouldn’t fall down. So I decided to design the Parkside Shorts + Skirt. In all honesty, the skirt was just an afterthought/add on to the pattern, but I’ve become quite fond of it, too!

Here are a few RTW shorts that I used for inspiration when designing the Parkside Shorts + Skirt.Parkside Shorts + Skirt RTW Inspiration || SewCaroline.comStarting at the top left and going clockwise… Anthropologie; Madewell; Anthropologie; Madewell; Old Navy

So, on to some other exciting news! For the first time EVER I’m going to be hosting a Sew-A-Long every day next week. Starting on Monday, I’ll break down the instructions with full-color photos, help you decide on fabrics, give tips and tricks for making sewing this pattern so simple. PLUS, I’ll be sharing three supplemental “hack” tutorials for the pattern: a double welt pocket, adding side slits, AND adding a lining to the skirt. You definitely don’t want to miss!

Do you want to play along and share your progress throughout the week, too?? Join the Sew Caroline Sewing Patterns + Fabrics Facebook group, that’s where all the fun will be had! We will have a photo album for the Sew-A-Long for you to upload your photos and be inspired by others!

Grab your pattern and some fabric this weekend and be ready to start sewing on Monday!

Happy Sewing,
