Sundressing Book Tour + GIVEAWAY!

Every summer Melissa of Melly Sews hosts a fun event on her blog: 30 Days of Sundresses… this summer it just happens to coincide with the release of her new book, Sundressing: Sew 21 Easy, Breezy Dresses for Women and Girls. I had the privilege of snagging a copy early to sew a fun project from her new book and I love how it turned out.

The Sutton Dress from Melissa’s book is a super on-trend off the shoulder dress that has a fitted elastic waistband. I opted to turn mine into a top and omit the elastic waist. One thing I love about her book is that the only pattern piece you need to create all the looks is a bodice block. Through each chapter Melissa shows you how to alter your bodice block to fit the look and style of the pattern. It’s definitely a great book of projects for a budding seamstress who loves to fit clothes for herself (or her daughter!).

For my version of this top, I omitted the waistband and simple lengthened the bodice by about 10″ (I have a pretty long torso). The pattern calls for 3/8″ elastic, but I went with 3/4″ because I was afraid it wouldn’t stay up as well without the elastic waistband.

I love how my top turned out (in Chalk and Paint voile!) and have already worn it several times this summer. Sundressing // SewCaroline.comSundressing // Sundressing // Sundressing // SewCaroline.comI loved making this top because it was an easy way for me to casually stick my foot in the off-the-shoulder trend … I think I like it, I’m still deciding =)Sundress2016LogoTo see past projects of mine from Melissa’s 30 Days of Sundresses series, go here for the Seaside Coverup and here for the Boat Club Dress. 1. I love road trips! My husband and I started when we were dating, and now our toddler enjoys them, too. We usually drive to a destination about 8-12 hours away and make lots of stops along the way, so it usually takes about 2-3 days to arrive. We have found some great gems along the way, and we have great memories to look back on. 🙂

  2. Sitting on my veranda having coffee basking in the morning sun with a snuggle puppy on my lap…
